Positive Speakers Programme

Photograph of group of people.George House Trust’s Positive Speakers Programme raises awareness of HIV and counters stigma and prejudice, using trained speakers who are living with HIV.

The programme provides schools, professionals and community groups the opportunity to hear, first hand, the experiences of people living with HIV. Our speakers are a diverse group of people with HIV who have been trained in public speaking. Through their ‘real life presentations’, speakers dispel myths surrounding HIV, promote a safe sex message and encourage a deeper understanding of people’s experience of living with HIV.

Speakers prepare their presentations in response to each request and as such we can tailor sessions for the age group, subject and focus of your group. We can also provide literature to complement the session, which includes more detailed information and further facts and figures about HIV in the UK and globally.

Face to face contact with a HIV positive person has proved to be one of the most effective ways of reducing HIV related stigma and raising awareness of HIV related issues. Facts and figures don’t always resonate, but an emotional connection with another human being does.

International Publicity

In the August 2009 email bulletin of AIDS Action Europe, which is designed to share good practice across Europe, the summary evaluation report was made available through their clearing house.
