£212 from Ribbons, Rallies and Rubbers

posted: 26/08/2010

Ribbons, Rallies and Rubbers event poster - a couple sat on the grass with two condom balloons As part of the Fringe of the Manchester Pride Festival, our Ribbons, Rallies and Rubbers - Diary of a HIV Activist evening raised £212. It continued our 25th anniversary celebrations and featured speakers and artists involved in different types of HIV activism over the last 25 years.

The ever fabulous Jonathan Mayor, long standing prolific activist Peter Tatchell, the founding fathers of George House Trust, drag king extraordinaire Valentino King and the captivating performance poet Gerry Potter took to the stage in front of an audience of over 90 people at the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club.

YouTube of Jerry Potter's poem that he perfomed on the night and has performed at various HIV and AIDS vigils. It's a piece demonstrating the very centre strength of being queer. A heartfelt battle cry reaching through the decades and constantly involved in the now. A cheer for hope and a decoration adorning gay history.

The night was talked about on gaydio and we’ve had appreciative emails saying what a good night it was.

Thank you to all who came and showed HIV activism still matters.

couple at civil partnershipA huge thank you to Mike and Andrew Page Fielding who celebrated tying the knot by raising nearly £200 for George House Trust! Mike and Andrew asked guests at their Civil Partnership to make a donation to support our work.

George House Trust is the largest provider of HIV social care in the North West of England. We support over 2000 people living with HIV. Your support makes a lot of difference to the people we work with. We're a small charity. No amount of money raised is every too small. Every penny counts!

If you are interested in raising money for us, please get in touch by emailing fundraising@ght.org.uk and we will work with you to turn your idea into action!

parade, pride, stop, go, stigmaWe're looking for people to join us for our 25th Anniversary Silver Party Entry in the Manchester Pride Parade on Saturday 28th August 2010.

This is a great opportunity to have fun, meet people, but most importantly to show support for people living with HIV in the North West

You will need to meet us at the Liverpool Road assembly point (off Deansgate) at 11:30 am on Saturday 28th August.

Please wear silver! And the more fabulous / glamorous / eccentric the better!

If you do not want to go in costume you can wear one of our 25th Anniversary t-shirts.

Please note spaces on the lorry will be limited and so will be given to people with mobility problems first - if you need one of these places please let me know on kath@ght.org.uk or 0161 274 5658 as soon as possible so I can ensure we can accommodate that.

If you do not let me know then please assume you will be walking (or dancing!) alongside the lorry.

Help Marathon Munich Fundraising

posted: 13/08/2010

Daniel leading the runnersThe Oxford English Dictionary defines the Marathon as "A bloody stupid thing to do, the first bloke who did it dropped dead, try getting a bus". So on the 10 October Daniel will be doing his first marathon, in Munich, Germany in 3 hours – that’s his time target.

Every penny and pound for George House Trust
Daniel’s running the Munich Marathon to raise money for George House Trust where he works. George House Trust provides advice, information and support to people living with or affected by HIV.

Daniel is paying all his own costs, so every penny you and others give will go directly to services for people living with HIV.

Daniel started his marathon training back in June and already his feet look like the surface of the moon, and after some champion chaffing his nips now resemble a pair of tea stains on his chest.

To achieve his 3 hour target he’s running 6 times a week and averaging over 50 miles a week.

His fundraising target is £1000 and he's almost 20% there. Please help make all this effort worthwhile and as he says - please dig deep.

You can give here on his Marathon fundraising page at JustGiving.com
