A fresh look for GHT thanks to Globe
posted: 16/12/2011
A group of volunteers from GLOBE - the Deloitte network for LGBT people,
their family and friends - recently donned scruffs and grabbed rollers and paintbrushes to help George House Trust spruce up our counselling and meeting rooms in central Manchester.
Why did these lovely volunteers want to give practical help to GHT?
“It was a great opportunity to do something that would make a difference to the service users so that they can feel comfortable and supported. Rather than just give a donation actually giving time felt more constructive and the results were hopefully beneficial to the clients and staff at GHT.”
“It was a pleasure to be able help GHT continue to deliver their ‘red carpet’ treatment through re-vamping a number of their meeting rooms. Not only was this for a great cause, but it was also lots of fun!”
“Personally, my interest was in getting my sleeves rolled up and doing something hands-on and practical to help an organisation providing such invaluable support to their clients. To be able to help with such a basic but labour-intensive task was a refreshing change. It was a great feeling painting the rooms, and knowing that in a couple of days staff and service users would be in there, and that our work would make a difference to their experience.”

And why did they choose GHT as the charity they wanted to help most?
“I wanted to get involved as I think what GHT does for people is amazing - giving people living with HIV a safe place to go and discuss their issues with other people in the same position. The fact they have so many people volunteering and giving up their time to offer a free service as well as helping to raise awareness of HIV is fantastic and giving up a Saturday was the least I could do. I have a couple of friends with HIV and I have seen how it has affected them, so I think the work GHT does to help people like my friends is inspiring.”
A really heartfelt thanks to the volunteers from GLOBE from everyone at GHT. We really needed to decorate, but just couldn’t afford it. Thanks for making this happen and for making such a difference. Rosie Robinson, Chief Executive

World AIDS Day, 2011
posted: 23/09/2011
World AIDS Day is marked on the 1st December all over the World – raising awareness and raising money for people living with HIV and AIDS. The noise that we make about HIV and AIDS on this international day is vitally important, as it challenges stigma and discrimination too.
How can you get involved?
Hold a fundraiser
You may choose to fundraise at your workplace or with a local community group.
As a basic fundraising package, this year George House Trust can provide you with Red Ribbons, Collecting tins and HIV awareness leaflets and postcards
If you are interested in fundraising, then contact us with a rough idea of how many people you want to fundraise with.
Sell our red ribbons in your shop or café
If you would be interested in selling red ribbons in aid of GHT, we can provide you with a counter display box and collecting tin. Contact us to arrange.
Volunteer!
Every year - we’re out on the streets selling red ribbons in Manchester city centre with our team of volunteers. If you are interested in joining us on the streets of Manchester, then get in touch.
Attend the Candlelit Vigil
Also in December we organise a candlelit vigil in Sackville Park / Gardens in Central Manchester which is an opportunity to remember those people we have lost to HIV. Any proceeds from the Vigil go to organisations supporting local people living with HIV.

Boaz Trust's Urgent Appeal for Volunteers
posted: 21/06/2011

The BOAZ Trust here in Manchester often finds hosts for GHT's destitute service users. Hosts are people with a spare room and big hearts! Some hosts take guests for a few days or weeks and others more long term.
GHT supports a number of men and women who are living with HIV who are homeless and literally destitute. They are people who have unsuccessfully applied for asylum. they live with the
constant fear that they may be forcibly returned to their country of origin where they may face torture or imprisonment and will struggle to get the ARV's thet they need to stay well and alive.
If you are interested in finding out more about being a Boaz host, contact Cat at the Boaz office on 0161 202 1056 or hosting@boaztrust.org.uk She will be happy to answer your questions and to arrange to meet with you to discuss the hosting process.
