Fitter with Outdoor Lads

Fancy doing something different with other gay and bi lads away from the normal gay scene? OutdoorLads brings together guys of all ages doing just that. They run exciting events right across the UK for a growing community of over 13,000 guys like you. Guys living with HIV are already part of OutdoorLads.
 

Exciting and new horizons

OutdoorLads run exciting events right across the UK for a growing community of over 13,000 guys like you. Members are doing fantastic new sports, meeting varied new people, learning useful new skills and visiting stunning new places close to home and further afield. They are challenging their own and other peoples' beliefs about what gay men can achieve, pushing themselves to go further and higher than they thought they could possibly go, becoming physically and mentally stronger, as well as making new mates for life and having a lot of fun along the way.

OutdoorLads run regular events including hiking, weekends away, caving, camping, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and much, much more, with over 350 events in the North-West of England every year - almost all being suitable for beginners!

Weekends Away with Baseline

Eat, sleep, walk, relax is the invitation Baseline offer for three holiday weekends for people living with HIV. Pick a weekend on the Gower peninsular in South Wales, in the Lake District, or in Snowdonia in North Wales.

Want to meet other people with HIV or do something relaxing and healthy for a change? How does 2 days in some of Britain’s beauty spots sound?

What's offered - and what's not

Daytime guided walks and nature talks. Night time eats and drinks.
The weekends are subsidised and each weekend costs £75. For this you will get two nights accommodation in an exclusively booked venue, breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday, three course evening meal on Saturday night. Plus tea, coffee and squash. Two days of guided walks, all group safety kit.

Not included: Personal drinks, you also need to take two dishes of food for the buffet for Friday night, arrange yourself a packed lunch for Saturday, take walking clothes / trainers / boots, and make your own way to the weekend's location. However, if transport is difficult please contact them as they may be able to arrange car shares from Manchester / NW England for you.

Our Sports Day - Saturday 11 July

publicity flyer for Positively Health Sports Day 11 JulyOn Saturday 11 July the George House Trust Sports Day is at Longford Park, near Stretford tram / metro stop.

Come along at 10.30 for the start at 11am. It's open to everyone living with HIV and George House Trust volunteers.

Bring a picnic / food to share, or use the cafe.

There will be coached taster activities, track and field events, and some competitive track events. For children there are fun races and football skills.

Turn up, Join in, or simply Watch and cheer.

If you are taking part remember to dress the part - sports kit, trainers.

Pride Games Now On

arrow from an archer's bow shot into a bright green applePride Games opened on Sunday and will close after a hectic week of activity, this coming Sunday 7 June. There are a feast of activities, athletic, relaxed and fun to pick from all week and all next weekend.

Monday 1st June
Women’s Netball
Get back into netball with this fun coached taster session open to players of all levels, even beginners! Trinity Sports Centre & High School, £3.00 (by advance ticket purchase)
 

Footy For Fun
Come along to this coaching session for men and women. Ideal for complete beginners and those of you who want to improve your skills on the ball. Access to Manchester Academy from Denmark Road.

Tuesday 2nd June
Rugby League Taster with Salford Reds on their own turf!
Imagine this, an evening playing with professional rugby players, showing you how to play Rugby League - can you resist? You’ll need kit - shorts, T-shirt and trainers and a towel. Open to men and women. 7pm - 8.30pm. Free Entry. Just turn up. Map in the calendar on pridegames.org
 

Wednesday 3rd June
Archery & Orienteering @ Mersey Valley Visitors Centre, Sale
Places are available at this Robin Hood style event. Endorsed by the Sheriff of Nottingham himself! Orienteering alternates with archery, to ensure Robin gets home! It’s in a forest like location and there’s a BBQ to celebrate at the end. £10 per archer.
Registration and payment on line. 6pm - 8pm.


Thursday 4th June
City Walk for the over 50s - nice and easy
A friendly group of people from ‘Out in The City’ will welcome you outside Taurus Cafe Bar (inside if it opens early) and head out on a gentle city walk passing places of interest along the way. The walk finishes at Taurus for tea, coffee and a chat. This gentle exercise is open to all over 50s. 11am - 1pm.
Starts of with a tram ride and heads for a special treat!
 

Day 1 Sailing Course begins @ Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre near Rochdale
The first of two days of sailing at the fantastic seaside like location on the edge of the Pennines. It forms part of a two day course towards RYA level 1 certification.
Sailing and safety equipment is provided and you’ll need a cossie and towel. Lunch voucher included and ask for a lift info@pridegames.org. 9.30am - 4pm. Registration
and payment on-line. A real bargain!
 

Friday 5th June
Day 2 Sailing Course & Regatta @ Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre near Rochdale
The second of two days of sailing and completion of the RYA level 1 course and certification or a 1 day course for improvers.
In the afternoon this is followed by a sailing Regatta for novices and experienced sailors. You can launch your own boat too! otherwise all equipment is provided. Ask for a lift. Registration online for course and competition. Course 9.30 - 12 noon and Regatta 1 - 4pm.
 

Climbing Competition @ Manchester Climbing Centre, with City Climb
Our first climbing competition being run in collaboration with City Climb, Pride Sports and Out Door Lads. Includes Lifetime membership of the Manchester Climbing Centre worth £15. For women and men.
Registration and payment on line, All welcome. 5.45 - 9pm.

Super Saturday 6th June

Northern Pride Open Golf @ Altrincham Municipal Golf Course
A new event run in partnership with Irons Golf, an experienced LGBT golf club. You’ll need a set of clubs. Check out entry standards in registration. Great cash
prizes available for winners! Registration includes bacon butties and a supper. You need to register online before for this event - payment online. Golf tees of at 12 noon - bacon butties from 10.30am. Event accreditation from 10am.

Mountain Biking @ Clayton Vale, Manchester
This year’s Mountain Biking event takes place in the beautiful Clayton Vale area of
Manchester. Run by event partners Bike Right and comprising of a skills sessions for
novices & experts, followed by races and medals! Bikes and gear supplied or bring your own. 9.45am - 2pm. Registration and payment on line.

Squash Tournament @ National Squash Centre, Manchester
An international Squash Tournament at the National Squash Centre. This event also
signals the birth of a new squash ladder. 10am - 4pm. Registration and payment
online.

5 a-side Football Competition with Manchester FA
Run by Manchester FA at Salford Sports Village, this five a-side football tournament
will accommodate men’s, women’s and mixed teams. The venue is on a main bus
route and easily accessible from Manchester City Centre. 9am - 5pm. Registration and
payment on line.

Athletics Tournament @ Trafford Athletics Stadium
Run by Open Athletics, this year’s track and field events will be run at stylish Trafford Athletics Stadium. Jumps, Throws and races. Novices welcome. 10 - 4pm. Registration and payment on line.

Ballroom and Latin Dance Workshops
A friendly group of new and experienced ballroom dancers will be waiting to partner
you under the watchful eye of one of the best dance tutors in the country, in the
John Thaw Studio Theatre. Registration and payment on line.

Tea Dance To round off this year’s Ballroom and Latin Dance workshops, we invite you to join us at the Pride Games Tea Dance. It is being held at John Thaw Studio Theatre in The Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama,
at The University of Manchester just off Oxford Road (behind the Museum). It
begins at 4.30pm and runs through till 7pm and includes a very English Tea. All are
welcome to attend £7 on the door.

Friendly & Fun Swim Gala @ Moss Side Leisure Centre
Open to all swimmers to come along and try out a friendly swim gala. Run like a
competition but without the pressure. A FREE to enter event sponsored by
Northern Wave Swim Club. For more info go to registration. You’ll need swim wear,
a towel, a drink and £1 for your locker and a willingness to have some fun! includes
a relaxation area. Entries on line to order events please. 1pm - 4pm.

Pride Games Club Night
- brought to you by the Bollox Team Based on a very popular monthly disco
and voted for by men and women, as one of the best nights out on offer! you’ll have
the chance to party with great tunes and fabulous company! just do it! Free with your
Pride Games registration pass and £3 to everyone else. All welcome. It’s at The Tunnel in Legends, Whitworth St, Manchester. If you miss it you’ll turn into a frog!

male mountain biker with helmetPride Games 2009 registration is now open. Pride Games run from 31 May to 7 June.

Pride Games offers competitive sports, a social and cultural side (ballroom, latin and ceilidh dancing), and many different taster events for the gay, lesbian, transexual and transgender commuinities.

Some events are free, for others there are charges. Check the event details.
