Thank you to our Team GHT Runners!
posted: 20/05/2011
George House Trust would like to say a HUGE thank you to all those who ran in Team GHT last Sunday, 15th May.
Our Team braved the cold and the rain to run and raise vital funds to support people living with HIV in the North West.
Big thanks also go to Christian from Active Health for providing some much needed free sports massage before and after the race and to the Cooperative, Crunch Bar and Durex for sponsoring our running vests. Also to our team of supporters who provided some fantastic encouragement along the route!
There's still time to sponsor our runners. You can find them at: http://www.justgiving.com/ght

You can now sign up to run with Team GHT in the 10km Great Manchester Run in mid May 2011. We are very pleased to have 85 places for Team George House Trust runners on Sunday May 15th 2011.
Run with us
Team GHT Places are open to all runners, including people wanting to run with Team GHT for their first time. We want a big turnout of runners and supporters – the sponsorship money you raise helps us provide vital quality support services to people living with HIV in North West England.
Book now
The Great Manchester Run is always overbooked, so be sure to reserve your GHT Team place now.
To book one of our 85 running places, please send a cheque for £36.00, payable to George House Trust. Please write your details - name, email address, telephone number and postal address on the back of the cheque, or another piece of paper.
Send your cheque and details to:
GMR 2011, Christy Lau, George House Trust, 77 Ardwick Green North, Manchester, M12 6FX
The £36.00 pays Great Manchester Run’s charges for registering you. We can refund this later, if you wish, once we have received at least £150 in sponsorship for you. However to maximise the money we raise, we hope you will meet this cost yourself.

Domestic Abuse Attitudes
posted: 15/11/2010
Domestic abuse harms many people as well as wider society. People living with HIV are affected by domestic violence as much as any other people in society. The Greater Manchester domestic abuse organisation, Independent Choices, wants people’s views about domestic abuse problems and what services are needed.
The survey asks just nine questions and takes just 5 minutes. Join the survey here.
Please share the survey
Please circulate this to people you know in Greater Manchester, because they want as many people answering the survey as possible.
Findings
The survey results will be published and help develop and support high quality domestic violence support services for Greater Manchester region into 2011.
Copies of the finished report will be available by searching their website in January 2011.

HIV and Immigration Conference
posted: 28/10/2010
George House Trust invites professionals to our 26 November conference on Working with HIV positive people subject to immigration controls. This is on Friday 26th November 9.30am - 4.30pm at George House Trust, Manchester.
The frequent changes to asylum legislation and policy make it difficult to keep on top of the issues and offer your clients the best advice or most effective practice.
Living with HIV adds a further layer of complexity to immigration and asylum applications and appeals. Those living inside the immigration and asylum system are confronted with issues such as poor housing, poverty, alienation and fear.
Creative Solutions
The aim of this day is to
- demystify terminology and systems
- to equip workers with a working understanding of the systems and legislation
- share approaches that effectively support this client group
- suggest creative solutions for professionals to adopt.
Speakers include:
- Ruth Heatley, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit - The Asylum Process; Application and Support Systems
- Daniel Murphy – George House Trust Service and Development Manager - HIV and Immigration, including Migrants' Rights to HIV Treatment
- Boaz Trust - Destitution Realities and Support
- Refugee Action - Leave to Remain and Legacy. Life after Asylum
